So the DMC’s are back in New Zealand. It has been ages since the last one in 2005. I personally think that New Zealand has missed it and purely to the fact that some DJs who are the shit in their bedroom are too scared to lose (if they don’t make first). What a bunch of pussies!

I entered the DMCs back in the 2005. If i’m right - It was my first battle, I can’t really remember now. I entered the Auckland Regionals, I got absolutely hammered but it was mad fun and a really awesome experience.

So now back to the point of my post- This year the DMC’s are back in New Zealand and we are seeing a bit of a change to the format to what we have seen in the past. This is awesome though- this year there is 1 final which is being held in Auckland on August 2nd @ Zen Bar.

If there are more than 8 entries there will be an elimination battle which will happen earlier in the afternoon to see who makes the cut to the main battle that night and who doesn’t. Since the last time the DMC’s were in New Zealand the rules have changed a bit. You are allowed to use any mixer you want providing it doesn’t have an effects unit built into it and you must use Ortofon Needles if you wish to participate.

The Ortofon thing is a right pain in the arse because I now have to go and buy new needles- however i’ve always just used Shure and Qbert has his own range of Orotofon’s now- a cheaper version called the Qbert OM and the flash version called the Qbert Conchordes. I’m going for the OM’s this year.. because damn.. those Conchordes are quite expensive.

Most DJ’s have been all quiet about whos entering and who’s not. I don’t care- I’m entering. Along with the 2008 Christchurch Scratch Champ- DJ Impact, Freek1C (mean DJ from Raglan- watch out!), and more. Apparantly we’re seeing DJ Raw’s DJ School come up for the event with a few guys entering which is awesome to see. I haven’t heard any news if The Abbot is coming up to Defend his title, but it would be really cool to see the guy come through and give it another crack.

I must give props to all the previous NZ DMC Champions. You have all inspired me (and i’m sure heaps of others) to step up to the stage and give it a crack. Your success is motovation for me (and i’m sure heaps of others) to keep jamming and practising to try and be as good as I can be, whether I lose or not- I always have something to take away with me from you guys. Mad Props!!!

Also mad props to the man DJ PAUSE! Without him the DMCs would still be nothing in this country. Much respect and love (no-homo) to you brother!!!!

If you are entering, be in Auckland early afternoon so if there are Eliminations, you can be valid for the battle.

Elimination Routine: 3 Minutes
Main Battle Routine: 6 Minutes
Needles: Anything from the Ortofon Range
Mixer: If you wish to bring your own mixer- you can, providing it doesn’t have an effects unit.
