Red Bull Studio

Red Bull Studio

The Red Bull Studio is a place of my learning and my first real hands on experience into DJing. I have a lot of respect for the place and it helps that one of my best friends is now the Studio Engineer.

Red Bull holds a course for High School kids between 16 – 18 years old called the Department Of DJs. It is a short course (2 days – I think) where kids can get an Experience into DJing and music production inside an awesome studio and see what DJing and Producing is all about. I am a product of one of these courses and so is my man Ben (Jyeah). We both went through the course near the beginning of when these courses started. When I did the course there I got awesome tutorials/workshops by DJ CXL, DJ Logikal, Chris Macro and Luke Thompson. We had to make a beat and have a go on the cut and see whats up. I smashed the baby scratch in 10 mins. YUSSS! :P

I am pretty sure out of all the people who have been through the Dept. Of DJ’s – Ben and I are just a couple out of a small group who have pursued our passion for music and have kept in touch with the establishment. All of this happened back in 2002/2003 for us. It is now 2008. I am a DJ and enter battles and Mix. Ben went on to do a Degree at Mainz in Studio Engineering (or something along those lines). After he graduated he was hired almost straight away to be the Studio Engineer at Red Bull.

If you know some high school kids who would be interested in these courses then point them to the Department Of DJ’s website which is:

I can assure you that he/she will not regret it.

Red Bull Studio isn’t just for DJs. Over the past couple of years they have taken on board bands and expanded their studio to fully situate live bands. Their investment in this saw them incorporate awesome equipment and a facility which no one is left unhappy with. The Red Bull Live Sessions are broadcasted live every week across every B.Net Station and footage and Audio is available at the following website:

If you are a DJ and/or know of a dope band/DJ who is after studio time and are/is struggling to find something, then point them to the above website as well. All the details of getting into the studio to record and practice music is available on their website. It is such a good facility and I think we are quite lucky to have a service like this in New Zealand.

I recorded my first Mixtape at Red Bull. It took a lot of time in between bands, but in the end I came out with a nicely recorded and mastered mixtape which I was more than happy with. I really enjoyed making it and I hope to make another one really soon. I will be uploading the mixtape I did (Pick ‘n’ Mix Vol 1) on here this week. Keep an eye out for it.

Ben and I had a jam in the studio the other day while a band was practicing. We got right into it and taking turns of mixing 2 songs each and then rotating. We ended up jamming away for about 2 hours in total. It was such a cool break away from everything, where we just cranked up the Studio Monitors up and mixed together some awesome music.

Here are some flicks below of us having a jam and chilling out (click to enlarge them). The next time we get together for another jam in the studio, we are thinking about doing a recorded version and throwing it up for download on here. Keep your eyes out for that one as well!
