DMC In-Store Invitational Battles / ScratchDat.com Invitational Series
I have been really quiet on this until I have got an official word from D-Form, who wanted to put this on.
These battles are not happening, because he doesn’t have the time due to University. He’s honest with me, and told me what’s up. No hate, he’s one of the coolest guys out there and if you got an issue- check yourself!
I’ve been thinking about it since I found out, and if it doesn’t happen- I’m going to hold the battle here on ScratchDat.com.
But before I do- I need your input on the following:
I’m going to still be eligible to enter, because DJ Impact is going to be responsible for looking after the battle, and not me.
We are going to try and hold about 4 of these this year and have a final of all the winners in Late November/Early December. The format will be the following: 4 DJ’s invited to enter at a time and will be set in an ITF Format. Semi Finals is the first round, and Final is the last round. If you’re unsure on what the ITF Format is, then it’s basically two 90 second routines for each DJ in the Semis and the final. Each routine must contain 1 Juggle and one Scratch. The winner of each round throughout the year advances to the final at the end of the year and will face the winners of the other 3 battles.
If you’re invited to enter, you need to go by the following rules so it is fair on everyone else:
1) You need a video camera
2) Your video needs to be shot in a position where the viewers can see see the decks & mixer. I don’t care what angle, just the decks and mixer need to be viewable so the judges can see what you’re doing
3) Your video must be uploaded to an upload service such as Rapidshare, Yousendit, Megaupload or Zshare in a format which is friendly for Youtube (.WMV, .AVI, .MOV and .MPG) and then the link emailed to DJ Impact. This is so everyone has a fair chance at each and every battle. If you have crap internet or whatever, then burn it to CD/DVD and Courier it to him (hit him up for details). He will then Upload it to Youtube and post them up.
4) Judges will be judging the battle. It will be a panel of 2 – 3 judges. One of the judges will be DJ Impact and we’re hoping to find another 2 judges to assist. The judging criteria is yet to be announced.
5) Prizes- There are going to be no prizes. The first prize is yourself being better than the rest! If I can, I might try and get a prize for the final at the end of the year.

In my humble opinion, it kinda lost the point of battling do it through internet, isnt it? coz you not actually facing your opponents, disses will b meaningless, you hands wont tremble coz there are no auidences, let along needle skipage coz you can always re-film it until you got it perfect, coz I think recovering frm a skipage during battle is an important skills too. And I think crowd control is another element in the battle. too. Probably will b better easier do it in 6mins format. I’m not hating or anything. Just what I think.

and just one more point;its kinda difficult to tell through camera whether DJs r using serato or not. if they sumhow make da control record indistinguishable frm real record and hide their computer, and claim it as custom records. hahahaha~~mayb i think too much! but yea, probably need one more rule: DJs needs to change records at least once in a set…..lol..

Just go with it gee, im all for it, coz i dont have cash to travel, an i have mean dramas with needle skipping lol

You guys seem pretty keen which is mad cool. I want to know all the dj’s who are keen first off. This will determine if a series will be a good idea or not.
What up Triq? You have some good points, but at the end of the day it comes down to skills and nothing else. How many battles you been too where DJ’s have complained because their shit skipped and thats why they lost? I been to heaps. Hell even i’ve said it before. So this battle gives you the opportunity to iron everything out and bring it down to what you can pull off.
The serato thing is a good point, but with the whole records thing.. what if someone does a juggle off a battle record and then uses it for a scratch break? Just a suggestion.
I think that the Serato point is quite valid. I want to put it out to everyone else on what they think first.. Serato allowed or nah? You can’t really cheat with serato for your juggles and cuts. You can either juggle or you can’t whether you’re using Serato or Vinyl. Same with Scratching.. You’re only as good as you are. Your laptop and Serato box ain’t gonna do you shit in a battle apart from not changing records. Whos with me on this?

I don’t think theres enough DJ’s to try and hold at least 4 of these a year. I reckon make it open to anyone, do a 3 min elimination routine and then pick either a top 4 or a top 8 depending on how many are down to battle.

Sounds like a good idea. I think it would be a good opportunity for the bedroom DJs to showcase their stuff, everyone has to start off somewhere I guess so its perfect for those who are weighing up if they are ready for the live comps or not. Enter and gain a rep I say. Im down for what ever, count me in… tho the dusty records I’ll have to find somewhere.

Who in Aucks wanna record thier sets round mine on the same day battle styles? Few of us standing round the for atmos and pressure, real crowd, real pressure, heaps of dissing when you mess up, bit of hating, live element for an internet battle?

Alright… So what I’ll do is remove the invitational and hold these battles a few times over the year for anyone who wants to enter. Rather than 4 entries. I’ll limit it to 6 or 8 entries. Whatever the interest is. I obviously can’t have an odd number like 5 or 7.

Spell has the body tricks on Lock.
Remember this isn’t a DMC Format battle and it is pure skills. Perfect Set vs. Perfect Set. Serato won’t be valid for this battle, but if you have your own customs- sweet (unlikely so far haha).
If you want to battle I will hold a registration period which will be looked after by the judges and they will select the draw of person vs. person.
This is aimed to get everyones skill levels up (including mine) and to get more happening over the year.
If you know anyone whos keen, who hasn’t seen this yet then let them know. I want this to be as good as possible.
