What up!
There is going to be an Elimination round and then after that it’ll be 1 round per week. This is how it’s gonna go down…
Elimination Round…
DJ’s are to submit a 3 minute video routine to me by 11:59pm, 1st of May. I’ll make up an email in the next day and post it in here.
Truent and I will be ranking the DJ’s from 1st to 8th or 1st to 4th, depending on the number of entrants. The first ranked DJ will battle against the last ranked, 2nd – 7th and so on. I’ll have the results and clips of the Eliminations up by the next day.
1st Round or Quarter Finals…
DJ’s are to submit 2 x 90 sec video routines to me by 11:59pm, 8th of May. I’ll have the results up of who’s advancing to the next round and the videos the day after. You can send the two routines together as 1 video clip/file if you want.
Semi Finals or Finals…
DJ’s are to submit 2 x 90 sec video routines by 11:59pm, 15th of May. I’ll have the results of who advances the day after.
If there are enough DJ’s to pick a top 8 the final two DJ’s that will advance will have to submit their next next lot of 2 x 90 sec sets by the 22nd of May, you know the deal. Otherwise if it’s cut down to a top 4 for the first round, whoever wins this round is the winner of the whole series!
I’m chucking up a poll that’s going to close on 22nd April at 5pm. If you guys vote that Serato can’t be used, i’ll disqualify you carrnts if i catch you using that shit! Hahaha

Sounds good! I just voted for the Serato option just in case there are DJs who came straight into the DJ game who have never used real vinyl before. It also might be good for everyone so that they can create a “Custom” set just for the elimination round. If it gets to messy with rules and regulations, then dot worry about it. I’m sure there’s enough with real vinyl to hold the comp.

Thats a NO to serato because we cant clearly see whats on the computer screen. The element of cheating might take place…as well as other lame techniques like using one turntable for the enitre battle.
Serato and battling will eventually join forces but it should not be used on a video/youtube battle. Thats kinda wack.
Maybe if we took this to another level and actually had a real venue to battle each other at the sametime. There are pros and cons about having this type of battle. Like having to man up in front of other djs and crowd with only one shot to do your set.

Some good points, but the point of this battle is perfect sets vs. perfect sets. No bitching about jumping needles, bitching about equipment provided, and bitching about sound because it’s your gear, your shit, your environment and your best work.
This battle is about skills. Best skills wins.

Hard out, Serato doesn’t make you a better DJ. It might give you a bigger selection of tracks/ammo to work with but in no way does it make your skills any better. Look at Shiftee taking out the DMC 07 World Supremacys with original vinyl against a majority of the competitors using Customs (Serato in a way) . At the end of the day it comes down to skill and I can tell what’s being done with hands/skill and whats been multitracked and done by a laptop.

Switch last year used orginal records as well for his routines from what I remember. I’m with the mike on this. I don’t own serato but I do use it at times. I know for a fact it don’t make you a better DJ. CXL and Manchoo aren’t better battle DJ’s because they have Serato….

Talked to Joe a week or so ago on msn about this, am keen to enter, but need a decent mixer and a video camera (as i told you at the time),
I’m away from home (bangkok) in Singapore for work from today until May 4th covering some bullshit event. Anyway, the May 1st deadline is not going to be possible. I just learned about the May 1st thing….fuckit…my fault for not checking the website more regularly, just to say thanks to Joe on the heads up about the battle and apologies on not being good with deadlines.
Is DMC happening in NZ this year?
I dont think Serato makes you better…..serato just doesnt feel right for really intricate shit IMO… so with or without serato ill be using normal wax – i guess custom records would feel just like normal ‘from the store’ ones….you can feel the needle rubbing the groves and know if it skipped.

Serato gives no advantage in the Eliminations or the rounds which are after the Elims. In the Eliminations you still gotta stick to ITF/IDA rules and its just 2 90 Second routines rolled into one big routine.
Mike put the poll up about Serato and the majority voted no, so it’s not happening.
I don’t mean to be an asshole about it, but I just want to understand as to why you think Serato should be in the Elminations, because I can’t see the advantage for just one round.

Because it opens more doors. Especially for those who just got in the game. And to those who haven’t been keeping up with vinyls since the digital era kicked off. And those who aren’t up in the record collection.
Elims would be a good opportunity to see how serato would be used in battle as a test for the future. I’m sure a lot of djs dont touch their vinyl on a regular basis and have picked up skills and familiarity using serato.
We could see an extra nine djs in the battle. Which has gotta be good for the game.

I agree about the DJ’s entering through- it will be good for the game. I can appreciate the not keeping up with Vinyl thing- but… if it shoulda been used then you shoulda voted yes. At the beginning you were saying no, and now you’ve changed your mind. Mike is going to poll for the next one to see what the feeling is on Serato though- so watch this space I guess.
I don’t agree with the skills and familiarity using serato… Serato doesn’t make anyone a better dj. It just means you have a better variety of tunes etc. If you have picked up skills on serato then there should be no reason why you can’t transfer those to proper records.. its the same shit with no Reletive mode or queue points.
Am I just being a self rightous pratt or you with me on some of my points in response to your thoughts?
