The End For Technics Turntables Is Approaching….

What up!

DJ Penfold has just told everyone on Twitter the saddest news to hit DJ circles since Roc Raida’s Passing! Panasonic/Technics are discontinuing their turntable range from FEBRUARY 2010.

If this is true, then this isn’t just going to hurt DJ’s. Businesses which sell DJ Gear are going to be affected as well. I believe Technics Turntables are the the main seller for most DJ Shops and I hope the ones here in New Zealand can justify staying open without the need to sell turntables.

DJ Revolution made a good point about the above in a conversation with Penfold on Twitter saying the following:

DJ Revolution:

i didnt hear That but hey, they made enough and they last forever anyway. I still have my first pair. Work great after 16 yrs!

And he’s right.. When was the last time your trusty pair of Technics SL-1200′s / 1210′s had an operational issue? As long as Technics keep making / stocking spare parts then I think most people will be sweet.

After hearing about this announcement from Panasonic/Technics, I predict the prices in the Second Hand Market to jump once all remaining stock is sold. If you’re after some turntables you better snap them up soon before they’re all out of stock.

DJ Shops will stay open… plenty of CDJ’s and Serato and mixers to sell still.

    Word bro.. MEAN!

  3. DisKoMan Says:

Any reason for this? Man- I still remember hearing about the year Turntables outsold guitars, maybe no all Technics but they would be the coveted brand you would eventually wanna get. Sad, so sad.

This has been determined to be a complete lie\hoax!

I have to admit, I was fooled for a moment. Then I looked it up on google and the only people that were talking about it were edm message forums…Then I looked up all the big equipment stores.

These stores were so affected by this supposed “end of technics” news that they posted….nothing…Check it yourself.

And then I thought…”Whoa! Wait a minute! Technics ending before tables like Gemini and NuMark turntables?? I would think those tables would go off before technics but what the hell do I know? ”

Then I contacted Panasonic about this and they laughed at me, like I was a fuckin’ idiot, and reassured me that I had nothing to worry about….I’m almost embarrassed to tell you guys this…

Here’s where this rumor started. It has been said that it was confirmed that he started this rumor to bring a spike in sells, at his store. Shame on him!

So, next time you hear something like this, do us all a favor and don’t be a complete moron and post anything until you have proof of a reliable source! STUPID!

    Sup..

I could have unapproved your comment, but that would be wack on my part. I believed the person in the DJ industry because he was in the industry and he said he received an email from Technics and reported on it. The other thing is that there’s lots of talk about it amongst the American Circles.. Example- In the weekend I was on Ustream watching Premier Live on Air with Da Beat Minerz and everyone in the chatroom was talking about the discontinuation of the Technics Turntable range as well.

Okay, so it seems it wasn’t true.. But going as far to abuse me for reporting something I got off someone within the industry is a little bit unfair don’t you think?

Anyway.. Glad t hear it’s a hoax! Sweet!

Looking at the NZ DMC Website (as linked above) .. How can you tell it’s a hoax. I visit that particular store all the time and know some of the people who work there… Why would they lie about something like this. I’m sorry.. But I don’t quite believe you.

  7. Tibz@ Technics DJ Equipment Says:

This is becoming really confusing, but either way, technics dj equipment will live very long, and especially the legendary 1200s. if discontinued, the underground world of DJing will go even deeper underground – imagine a dj playing off the good old decks in this tech-age! if not discontinued, is this a way of boosting the sales?!

  8. Joe Turksta Says:

Well who knows… Apparently it was a rumour started here in NZ and other places around the world have said they’ve heard from their Technics distributor the same news.

So who knows what to believe. Either Way.. 1200s will last forever!
