2009 Trans-Tasman IDA DJ Battle Results!!!

First off I’d like to send massive props to K.C, Raw & Pause for putting the gig on and bringing it to Auckland City. Last night I was really embarrassed for being a New Zealand DJ because FUCK ALL PEOPLE SHOWED UP TO SUPPORT!!!
In the end only four DJ’s ended up entering! They were the following:
Impact – NZ
Zeke – AU
Wil K – NZ
What – AU
Here is how the battles went down last night:
Round 1:
Impact vs. What – Winner: Impact
Zeke vs. Wil K – Winner: Zeke
Final:
Impact vs. Zeke- Winner: Zeke
The final result was fucking tight and I guess it can be reserved for criticism from everyone else on who they thought should have won. I did film all the routines last night, but I have no idea what the Quality is. Expect some videos uploaded here this week. So keep checking back and you will definitely have something to watch so you can judge and put forward your thoughts.

Damn, just read the blog again (was half asleep when I typed my original post), sorry bro, I’d be definately keen to see this footage now, sounds very controversial.

nah your right cuzz impact did win he was robbed the title by the awsome judges……zeke had awsome cuts but impacts routines were well rounded and technical(it seems as tho the judges didnt understand what he was doin)… the footage should show the true out come of the battle………

OK here we go
I’m sick of fool’s posting under bullshit names bitching, just because it didn’t go the way they wanted it to go. I think overall the decision was fair, we went over the scores a number of times, each round was marked out of 100 for each DJ so with 3 judges & 2 rounds each thats a max of 600 points and in the end there was only 12 points that separated them.
Turksta writing stuff like “I guess it can be reserved for criticism from everyone else on who they thought should have won” Thats always gonna lead people to be negative you might as well just come out and say what’s really on your mind instead of sitting on the fence.
“he was robbed the title by the awsome judges”
“judges didnt understand what he was doin”
Really??? I totally understand what he was doin, in fact i can probably recognize and understand beat juggling patterns better than anybody in the country and pretty up to date with the scratching too.
“it was shit organising. next one should be free entry or 5 dollar entry at the most”
To be honest the only reason it was held in Auckland was because Wil K was hitting up KC in OZ telling him that there was all these DJs coming over from NZ entering the comp, He though it seems like there’s more interest over in NZ so lets try it in auckland.
There was nothing wrong with the organization, Free or $5 entry is not going to get the winner to the other side of the world, The venue fee by itself was $500, and it was probably the best prize pack ever in a battle over $7K worth.
The future of DMC & IDA are in serious doubt in this country after the turn out of competing DJs, It was a awesome night Poroufessor, Alphabet, Wanderers and very high skill level in the comp, pity there was know one there to see it.
In my opinion Impact is by far the best battling DJ in NZ and if you think 3 NZ judges are going to let an Australian that’s just OK win then you must be crazy.
Zeke was good, very good and you should give him credit where its due
November 30th, 2009 at 10:27 pm
Dayumm!!!!
I thought this was invite only which is why only a few DJs could enter???
As for no one showing up, i guess no one feeling it or some shit. I couldnt afford to go, an thats just being real.
I hope DMCs are on next year, would love another shot at the title lol
Cant wait to see footage, Zeke must be tha man to take out the worlds 4th best!!!

Yo Javarnaught- there was a wild card section where anyone could upload a vid and gain entry as a competitor, its was a real good idea that just wasnt taken advantage of.
Im sure the tablist scene here in NZ is still strong regardless of attendance. Big ups to those who put it all together.
Id hate to be a judge, but I cant wait to see the footage, and Alphabethead in action again. Congrats to Zeke and all the other competitors!

As usual it’s always a pleasure entering comps no matter what the outcome. 2much to Zeke, Impact and the bro Wat for entering!! As for the others that filled out the registration forms and never entered.. bunch of pooftaz!!!
2much to Raw, Pasue and KC for running it this year! Hone was a mean host dj too.. 2much ehoa!!
What I do have to comment on is that I think you got the wrong end of the stick brutha Raw?
I emailed KC to say that we’ve got a “DJ IMPACT” support group keen to go tautoko the brutha in Sydney and that we were after dates.. I didn’t mention anything about having all these djs keen to enter?? I never said that at all just to clear that up. I found out about the wildcard entry myself and was encouraged by Impact to apply (Bit gutted when we had heard it had moved to NZ but ahwell)
I don’t know how anyone else got an invite but heard that Tricq, Affiliate & Seer1 got one, And later that Lenski was keen too? I expected those invites to have come from either yourself or Ritchie? But yeah all I know is that Elite Forces were behind this battle the whole way, filled out forms and entered.. fuck every other pussy who said they would enter and didn’t! But I cant take the credit for the lack of NZ entrants. Seer1, Lenski, Afiliate, Tricq….. SHOCKING!! As DJ Reminise would say on f/b “Give urselves uppercuts”
Yeah it was a typical Auckland stink turnout!! FAAARK!!! OH WELL!! SHIT HAPPENS!!
I agree that if you’ve got something to say.. then let peeps know who you are.
IMO I thought Impact had taken the finals.. I was really surprised when I heard the announcement.. Watching the final battle I thought the first round was close (Eitha way) in the 2nd round I thought Impact showed more consistency in his composition and got to Zeke mentally intimidating him, which threw Zeke’s final round off bad… late in the round Zeke got his flow back on the cut which didn’t last long.. Impacts a humble dude and not a sore loser.. Bitching aint him. Anyway that’s my opinion everyone else is entitled to their own all good.
Apart from that shot battles, good catch ups.. and a mean drink and barbee the next day.. Shot to Zeke who taxi’d from town to my whare (Rich guy) to come for a jam early next morning before he had to jet back (now that’s keen… bad bro on the piss till 6am keen ta jam 9.30am gotta love the passion..hahaha).. Mean dude!!!
Best of luck to Zeke at the Worlds!

What’s up Raw.
I’m with you on the bitching under an unknown alias. I think if you’re going to say something publicly then you should really be using your Real name or alias. I’ve always believed that too.. Come on guys…. be yourselves.
When I said “I guess it can be reserved for criticism from everyone else on who they thought should have won” , I wasn’t trying to lead people on a negative buzz. I’m not prepared to say things to be negative towards Zeke, because he won and he was really polite and respectful to us throughout the night. I can understand how you can think I was shit stirring though, so apologies for coming across as a guy trying to send everyone down the track of negativity.
I’ll be honest and say I thought Impact won. I thought he won on the juggles and all round structure of his sets. I thought his sets were clean, tidy and way more structured than Zeke’s. Zeke has awesome scratch routines which were super sharp and super clean, however I thought his juggles were rough compared to Impact’s. I’ll post the footage up by Wednesday and let people decide themselves. I haven’t done it yet because work has been rediculous lately and I’m still paying for the long night on Saturday night.
On the subject of DJ’s not entering etc. You’re right! Saturday night was embarrassing on the Competitors and Spectator Front. I didn’t enter because my skills aren’t at the IDA level yet. This is the first time I’ve ever said “next year”. I’ll be in next year for sure. I found it stink that the guys who entered and pulled out didn’t show up to support the gig.
Auckland is shit for support of local acts and has been for a couple of years now. It’s sad that Auckland is as crap as it is for gigs like this and like Wil K said.. That’s the usual up here. Also Wil.K is right. We were all going to head to Aussie to get on the piss and support Impact in the IDA’s, the only other DJ who would have entered out of our planned trip would have been Wil K himself.
I really appreciate that K.C was prepared to give it a crack and let Impact represent in his home country. That’s Mean and I look forward to the IDA’s again next year!!!!
Finally… Good luck Zeke. All the best for the worlds.
December 1st, 2009 at 7:21 pm
Big congrats to my homie Zeke! Was awesome to catch up with you again brother! Rock that shit hard at the IDA Worlds man!
Big ups to my man KC, was dope catching up again. Was a good night even with the turnout! Good to see all the bros in Auckland, Hone, Pause, Alphabethead, Rhys B, Raw, Kerb, Goosh, Juse, the rest of the crew that came up from Welli.
Shit happens, it is what it is. I’m just glad that there is someone going over to Poland that can represent us correctly. My man Zeke has dope skills.
I wouldn’t blame it on Wil K. I can back him up and can confirm that he didn’t mention anything about heaps of DJ’s coming over to enter. I still have all the emails in my inbox. I was originally going over by myself and I knew about the Wildcard Entry because there was one last year and I pushed Wil K to do it because I wanted to share that experience that I had last year with my fellow crew member and show the ozzy’s how Elite Forces roll.
Together Wil K and I had about 15 people that were keen to come over as support, some being DJs from here. We said we had a bunch of people coming over to support us and were wondering if there was going to be a hotel that all the ozzy entrants were staying at in Sydney so we could all book together and stay at the same place. We didn’t say anything about people coming over with us to enter. The DJ’s that were coming over to support us could’ve made their own enquiries to enter behind our backs, not that i give a shit. This could’ve lead people to think that there is more interest over here, but i wouldn’t blame it on Wil K. I’m just real disappointed in the people that were given opportunities to hold it down for our country and said they would, didn’t. It makes us look real bad and ruins our chances of having these sorts of battles in NZ again and even having a DMC again, just like Raw said.
Nevertheless, it was an awesome weekend and it was good to catch up with everyone. Good luck once again Zeke and show them how we flip shit over these ways!

you know what????….. There was a WHOLE bunch of people (and im talking about my boys here) who knew about the comp and should have entered and there was a whole bunch of people who knew about the event (still talking bout some of my boys here) but DIDN’T……. Seriously I heard every effin excuse in the book for people not entering or attending….. It’s on them for the attendance not us…. people knew!!!!! they just dont give a fuck……. So fuck em…. why should we waste our time and effort (and money!!!!) thats right i lost money every time…….
Have fun not going to the comps next year fools…..
A huge shout out to all who DID attended and enter…. Much respect…. you do give us hope…..
you know what else?? the dudes who didn’t enter but showed interest, then never even came to the event……. that’s the biggest slap in the face……. not even the so called scratch dj’s came….. and trust me they knew it was on……
ftw

also a huge shout out to the sponsors THE ROCK SHOP (leon), DENON (such a dope prize), FLAVA (mike and Josh) and BACK2BASICS (phil). Your involvement also gives us hope.

Sorry to Wil K, bro I wasn’t blaming you for the lack of DJ’s that entered, I think that was just the impression KC had when he first talked to me about running it in auckland and one of the main motivations behind doing it here.
At the end of the day, he didn’t have to run it here but it was a opportunity for local DJs to get a crack at a international comp and i encouraged him to give it a shot.
I’m pretty gutted for him to come to NZ and have that happen, guys like him and pause are the reason there is still a scene here & in OZ.
I can only speak for myself when it comes to the judging but i had it one round each and even those rounds were only a few points difference.
I never try to show favoritism to any DJ when judging because I know how much hard work the DJs put themselves thru when preparing for battles and to win or lose because of favoritism would suck.
I don’t have Zeke’s last set on my camera but just remember the Judges only have one shot at analyzing it on the night so i know i did my best to be fair.
December 1st, 2009 at 9:03 pm
Yeah hard uce, was gutted for him to come here and have that happen too. Seems like battling isn’t cool anymore man which is sad. Hope this isn’t the last of battles here aye. Too much to KC, Raw and Pause for putting it on!
Peace

At the end of the day… an opinion on here is just an opinion and personal thoughts. I’m not having a sook because Impact lost, i’m just saying if I was the judge, I would’ve thought he came out better. I wasn’t a judge and what has happened has happened. Yeah I’m a little disappointed but shit happens.. Time to move on.
As for what Raw and Impact have said above… It was really embarrassing to see the support the gig got. I’m with Pause about the dudes who didn’t enter but showed interest, then never even came to the event. There were SOME who were playing gigs etc. elsewhere and definitely couldn’t make it. I know one guy who came from his gig just as the results were announced- He wanted to be there for the whole thing but couldn’t.
All good though….. Videos being edited now. They will be up by morning.

p.s I emailed dmc and told them im not going to run it next year…… feel free to approach them and do it…… i probably wont come tho…. i think im washing my hair that night lol

Beach boys pleeeeease, I’m just curious!
First off, thanks to Pause, Raw, KC, Hone and Alphabethead for their roles. Big ups to Zeke(A huge congrats and best of luck for the worlds!) and What for missioning it to Auckland. A big chur to the EF boys for repping NZ and a jam afterwards. The Welly-deep crew for the high quality entertainment. Also to Turksta for the website and youtube uploads.
I’m embarrassed that Auckland did not put on for the event. Sorry that yous lost money. I paid the well spent $20 and had a good night. Sad times indeed for real NZ hip hop.
After watching the footage that I filmed plus the youtube above, I would say that Zeke won the first round just. But it was obvious that Impact won the second round by a mile. And in my personal opinion, I would of given Impact the win. No offense to the judges. I understand that yous had to make a tough call.
I hope someone else can pick up the torch and put these events on in the future.

Just wanted to say thankyou to all of the sponsors and organizers that made this event possible. If it weren’t for them few keeping the scene alive I don’t know what scene there would be… so thankyou and much love once again.
Everybody has the right to have their own opinion, and I respect that very much. So thankyou for everybody’s input as it shows me what I need to work on to keep pushing/bettering myself further, not only as a battle dj, but also as an artist.
Impact, your NZ’s best and it was an honour… ur a killa!
Thankyou
Zeke
