Last week my crew the Villains and I got the opportunity to open for the GZA (Wu-Tang) in Ohakune and Welli alongside local DJ’s D-Rail, Affiliate and a bunch of other dope local acts.

Had an awesome time on the road and it was cool to be able to kick it with GZA and DJ Mathematics and shoot a video clip in Welli for JB’s new song “WAR”. Anyways, check out this little behind the scenes video made by Hitz of Funk Village/Villains from the GZA Tour show in Ohakune and JB’s video shoot!

Here are the results from the battle that just happened in the weekend…

Results:

The quality of the battlers was the highest i’ve seen in years, this DVD will be worth copping once its released! Congrats to Vajra and everyone else that competed and lastly big ups to Christie and her team for keeping the art form going and running what looked like a quality battle! Respect

Another year done and dusted. This year they picked 10 dj’s to advance through to the 6 min rounds instead of the normal 12. Congrats to the dj’s that made it through and everyone that battled in the DMC Finals Weekend. Below are the results for the World Finals (6 Min Showcase) Battle.

It’s that time of the year again and the 1st day of the DMC World Finals in London just ended. Below are the results for the World Supremacys and the World Team Battles.

Battle For World Supremacy:

1st: Switch – Defending Champ! (UK)
2nd: Getback – (France)
3rd Equal: Solo – (USA) and the other DJ still has TBC.

World Team Finals:

1st: Kireek – Defending Champ! (Japan)
2nd: Trauma Team – (France)
3rd: Bionic Stylus Crew – (UK)

Sounds like the 1st night at the DMC World Finals was another dope battle. Looking forward for to the release of the DVD.

Congrats to my homie Switch (UK) for winning it a 3rd time, breaking the record of most title wins in a row at the World Supremacys. Another big shout out goes to Kireek (Japan) for succesfully defending their title in the World Teams Champs. They are now tied with C2C (France) with 4 consecutive wins!!

What is the WTK Worldwide Scratch Battle??

The “WTK WORLDWIDE SCRATCH BATTLE 2010″ is an international online scratch battle.

That battle will carefully be judged by a professional jury.

The concept is simple:

Each contestant must download the WildStyle looper 3 ( http://www.myspace.com/wtkbattle / http://www.yourlooper.com ) which contains several beats, record a video set of 1min30 and then send a video of his performance using one of the 15 proposed beats.

Youtube and Beat4Battle forum will be hosting the videos of all participants.

Best sets will be rewarded with prizes from our partners. (Vestax, Serato, Pro-x-fade)

The promotion of the event will be done via several types of media such as websites, specialized press, blogs, specialized forums, webzines to make sure to cover the largest number of participants.

The Rules:

1. Any Dj of any country can sign up
2. Dj’s must have a scratch routine of 1min30s on the beat of their choice but it has to from the Wildstyle looper 3.
3. The scratch routine must be video recorder in “one shot” and sent on youtube with the title and the following tag: WTK WORLDWIDE SCRATCH BATTLE 2010: DJ “YourName” before April 30, 2010.
4. All post production work, video or sound editing will automatically result in disqualification.
   However we’ll recommend the sound output to be recorded seperately for a quality purpose. Please make sure the recording is done under decent condition; Bad lighting/framing can be harmful to your performance.
5. DJs will only use real vinyl or timecoded vinyl but no CD player, no effects, no instruments other than turntables.
6. The judges will award points to the dj’s of their choice based on technicality and musicality of scratches (3 points for first, 2 points for second and 1 point for third).
7. Then the judges will have 1 week to discuss and do a final count of the votes.

I really hope someone from NZ enters!! I would- but i’m not up to scratch (no pun intended) to do so!

The Dilated Peoples (one of my favourite rap groups) came to Auckland last week on Thursday and put on one hell of a show. Their show is one I have been anticipating for years and it finally happened. I have seen 2/3′s of the crew before at 4:20 when it DJ Babu and Raaka Iris Science came through as Expansion Team.

DJ Babu did all the cuts for all the songs live and even pulled off one of my favourite beat juggles of all time – Blind Alley.
