The Auckland Council are putting on a gig in South Auckland later this year which will contain a DJ Battle.

1st Prize is $1000

The format is as follows:

8 Man Elimination competion (DMC style format) Prelim round, Semi Final and Grand Final.

2-2:30 min sets (I’m going to suggest 3 min sets)

2 x Serato setups are provided (Rane mixer) and 2 Technics 1200s at each station. Traktor if prefered. No cdjs will be available.

Who’s keen? Apparently the judges are going to be Ned Roy, Manuel Bundy & DJ LowKey.

Drop a comment if you’re keen. If there aren’t enough entrants, the council will pull the battle.

Last week my crew the Villains and I got the opportunity to open for the GZA (Wu-Tang) in Ohakune and Welli alongside local DJ’s D-Rail, Affiliate and a bunch of other dope local acts.

Had an awesome time on the road and it was cool to be able to kick it with GZA and DJ Mathematics and shoot a video clip in Welli for JB’s new song “WAR”. Here are the results from the battle that just happened in the weekend…

Results:

1st Place – DJ Vajra (Platter Pirates)
2nd Place – DJ I-Dee (Trooperz, VA Allstars)
3rd Place – DJ Precision (Lo-Livez, X-Ecutioners)

The quality of the battlers was the highest i’ve seen in years, this DVD will be worth copping once its released! Congrats to Vajra and everyone else that competed and lastly big ups to Christie and her team for keeping the art form going and running what looked like a quality battle! Respect

Tonight sees the opening of the Canteen DJ School which is run by the homie DJ Spence.

A lot of us would have had something to do with Spence during his years at the DMC Store in Auckland City (before it was re-branded as Mix Foundation). He is now the program co-ordinator at the Canteen DJ School.

Tonight is the grand opening and will surely be a piece of NZ Turntablism History that you won’t want to miss. I’ve never seen a line up in one room for a jam and it’s all for charity (which is fuckin’ awesome!).

This Thursday (02/06/2011) see’s the launch of the weekends in live club format. Come down to Code on the corner of Queen Street & Shortland Street in Auckland City to catch the full Mai Mix Weekend line up rocking the club all night long. It’s that time of the year again and the 1st day of the DMC World Finals in London just ended. Below are the results for the World Supremacys and the World Team Battles.

Battle For World Supremacy:

1st: Switch – Defending Champ! (UK)
2nd: Getback – (France)
3rd Equal: Solo – (USA) and the other DJ still has TBC.

World Team Finals:

1st: Kireek – Defending Champ! (Japan)
2nd: Trauma Team – (France)
3rd: Bionic Stylus Crew – (UK)

Sounds like the 1st night at the DMC World Finals was another dope battle. Looking forward for to the release of the DVD.

Congrats to my homie Switch (UK) for winning it a 3rd time, breaking the record of most title wins in a row at the World Supremacys. Another big shout out goes to Kireek (Japan) for succesfully defending their title in the World Teams Champs. They are now tied with C2C (France) with 4 consecutive wins!!
